When I was younger, my parents used to take extravagant vacations and leave my brother and I at home with our grandparents. The time we spent at Grandpa and Grandma’s was full of SuperKid Academy, Mavis Beacon typing lessons and talking about Jesus.
My grandma was a peculiar woman. She had a quirkiness and authenticity about her that made people stop and listen. She was a prayer warrior and loved people deeply and tangibly.
One night, I woke up to go to the bathroom, and I saw a silhouette standing in the darkened living room.
I walked closer; “Grandma?”
My Grandma was standing there on top of her Bible – literally. She was talking, but I wasn’t really sure who she was talking to.
She didn’t stop. “Grandma, what are doing?” I asked.
She replied softly, “I’m standing on the word of God, Tori.”
I never realized what my grandma was doing that night until later on in my leadership journey — she was battling. She was nose to nose with the enemy, fighting her guts out.
There came a pivotal moment in my leadership journey, a raw and authentic moment, where I felt defeated, carrying the weight of lies, and I had to pick myself up off the ground and choose to stand firmly on the Word of God.
The truth is, sisters, that our greatest battles as leaders are not in the seen but in the unseen.
It’s not against flesh and blood, but against a spiritual force who opposes us. Scripture tells us that he is an accuser, a liar, a deceiver and he has come only to devour you. He is ruthless and relentless, and he won’t stop.
But “thanks be to God who give us VICTORY in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
We have victory in the name of Jesus! He has given us a shield of faith and sword of truth to extinguish EVERY flaming dart the enemy shoots our way. He is our rock, our fortress and our God whom we can trust.
I don’t know what you’re battling today, but let’s be mighty women of God who rise up in the morning and physically stand firm on the truth of God’s Word. Let’s not be leaders who cripple in the face of adversity or hide when fear comes knocking.
Let’s run with endurance the race that is before us, looking to Jesus, the author and the perfecter of our faith!
